O.ur multi-disciplinary Public Involvement Team has decades of experience in process development and implementation, facilitation and mediation, strategic communications, media management, graphic and web design, and technical writing.

Our toolbox of skills and experience allows us to tailor the process to meet your specific needs.

We know that public involvement is not “one size fits all”—that to be successful we must consider the goals, internal and external expectations and complexity of each project. Our toolbox of skills and experience help us tailor the process to meet your specific needs. We are responsive, creative, and are able to adapt to meet the ever-changing project environment to help ensure that issues are addressed and projects stay on time and on budget.

Our work reflects the Core Values of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2). Our fundamental approach to a project is to:

  • Be proactive
  • Assist clients in identifying issues and articulating messages.
  • Provide both short- and long-term strategic guidance.
  • Accurately frame and communicate significant information.
  • Satisfy citizens' demands to be involved in decisions that directly affect them.
  • Engage citizens and clients in a structured, solution-oriented process.
  • Provide a zone of safety for dialogue and negotiation.
  • Address issues as part of the process, rather than untimely surprises.
  • Work with clients to discern whether public involvement or public relations is the right approach.
  • Help ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Process Development

KC, Maegan and Francine lead a meetingEffective public involvement and community outreach require thinking strategically and working collaboratively to develop a process that meets project and constituency needs. The strategy should be flexible enough to adapt to project changes or unexpected challenges. We work with our clients to create an action plan to align public involvement with project objectives and outcomes.

Program Implementation

Karyn Criswell talks with attendeesStrategic public involvement planning doesn't end once a public process and a program are identified. Successful public involvement efforts respond to the client and the community for the project's duration, with mid-course adjustments to be sure the project finishes with optimal public involvement—on time and budget.

Facilitation

KC Cooper leads discussionAll meetings need facilitation to be efficient and productive and to meet client and public expectations. For projects with diverse constituencies, good meeting facilitation is the most important tool in keeping projects on schedule while addressing issues and concerns effectively.

Public Information & Project Communications

Section 404 permitting diagramJDW’s strategic approach leads to effective public information and project communications—essential components of any successful public involvement effort. Our team members' range of business experience and diverse academic backgrounds strengthen our capability to interpret technical writing and develop clear and useful public information pieces for varied audiences.

JDW-developed project materials frame the client’s intent in a well thought-out design and illuminate it with telling graphic imagery. As is appropriate for client needs and the target audience, we use project publications, reports, newsletters, tab inserts, news releases, advertisements, posters, flyers, tent cards, banners, and exhibit materials. Our working relationships with media service, design, and print companies mean we can obtain quality production at competitive pricing.

Graphic Design

Samples of print workGood graphics help readers understand complex topics by presenting information in an appealing way. We use computer imaging to accurately illustrate the project's design elements, potential visual impacts, and aesthetic effects. The resulting image(s) have multiple applications—for example, illustrations, technical reports, tabletop displays, org charts, diagrams, maps, graphs and powerpoint presentations. Development and installation of all forms of media are all within our capabilities.

Web Site Development & Maintenance

Samples of web workA web site is the most cost-effective way to reach the greatest number of people. JDW creates web sites designed to be effective, easy to update, and optimized for search engine efficiency.

First, we translate the web site process (strategy and concept, design solutions, site organization, and navigational interface) into understandable language for our clients. Then, we create a web site that targets the client's goals and incorporates creativity, up-to-date technology, and superb graphic design. We can either coordinate with your existing internet service provider or help you select one, and develop links with partner web sites. We also can maintain the web site with regular updates, including text content, assembly and HTML coding, site statistic reports and final ISP/host implementation. In addition, we can create online surveys which can provide timely and useful information to our clients.
